Abstract

The demand of information in general and specifically on sexual and reproductive health, is every greater time; nevertheless, the information available by the national statistical system faces difficulties in terms of the currently, cover, content and quality. The censuses of population and households do not take place with the suitable regularity, and in the census of the 2005 were not considered the fertility, mortality and migrations, keys variables for the study of the changes in the demographic tendencies and their projection to the future. The vital statistics continue with unregistered problems, limiting them like potential source to supervise the programs of maternal and infantile health, and the administrative registries related to the population and the health are not systematized suitably. In addition, the information is conceived from the point of view of the provide, centralized in the public organizations seats, with limitations for its direct access or remote. It does not exist an satisfactory information system by the incipient use of the information and communication technologies. The surveys of households have had certain regularity, but they are insufficient to satisfy the necessities with information of regional and local governments. In this document is pleaded for reengineer of the national statistical system and several recommendations is are formulated to improve the availability and the access to the information, the construction of information systems and is invoked to the greater investment in these aspects, to be able to elaborate development strategies based on quantitative evidences.
