Abstract

Water, air, soil, and food pollution is the consequence of the activities performed aiming to improve living conditions of human beings. However, mankind has forgotten to live in harmony with nature and how to preserve it. Nowadays, there is a great amount of chemical and biological substances that put human health at risk, whether because these are toxic or because of their elevated concentrations. It is necessary to have appropriate methodological and analytic techniques in order to determine poollution levels in each place. Also, technical regulations related to contaminant control in the environment are necessary. Peru has regulations with respect to water and air contamination; regulations for water include the determination of physical and chemical parameters, as well as the detection of organic and non-organic elements and substances. Primary contaminants are referred to in regulations for air, international guidelines serve as reference for regulations related to soil contamination, and US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulations are referred to when it is the case for assessing food contamination. Considering that nowadays there is a 9.7% increase on productivity and with the increase in several areas of economical activities, it is necessary to complete environmental regulations and also to develop national regulations and actions for the control and evaluation of chemical substances, preservation of natural resources and certification of imports and exports.
