Abstract

Objective. We examine the elements of a navigation program that facilitated linkage of men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TW) to HIV care. Materials and Methods. We conducted interviews with: 20 patients receiving navigation services and 4 peer  navigators with HIV. Results. The work of the navigators contributed to fill a gap in HIV care, providing personalized services to navigate the health system and facilitating the process of linkage to HIV care. Conclusions. Strength-based peer patient navigation may be a useful and feasible strategy to improve linkage to HIV care for MSM and TW in Peru, integrating peer navigators, less vertical services,  and public health strategies with greater community participation.
